On this day, many celebrate the birth of God the Son who left His place in heaven to be born of a lowly virgin, laid in a lowly manger, and visited by lowly shepherds. He underwent trials from the day He was born, beginning with the ruler of the land committing child genocide just to kill this one. His adult life was full of people whose goal was to destroy Him, and after three years of His ministry, they succeeded in killing Him in the most brutal way imaginable. God with us willingly came to earth as a helpless infant, knowing full well that He would die in such a terrible way.

Why would an all-powerful, all-knowing God do that? No other reason than to save unworthy sinners and glorify Himself. All of us have rebelled against God, from the moment we were born. Jesus was the only one who had not, and for that reason, He was qualified to suffer God's just wrath in our place. God was satisfied when He turned His face away from His only Son. We have the free gift of eternal life because of His sacrifice.

And it's all because God decided to send His Son to be born of a lowly virgin, laid in a lowly manger, and visited by lowly shepherds. Have you accepted this amazing and free gift?

"For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life." John 3:16

Those who say God is all love or all wrath do not understand who He is or what he's done. I do not claim to understand it myself, but I do know that in His love, He was able to save us and satisfy His wrath in one powerful move. It still blows my mind that He would do that for a people who have rebelled against Him since day one. We deserve nothing. He has given us His very Son.

That is an event worth celebrating.

Merry Christmas!
